The Sanctuary is at the eastern terminal of the 1.5 mile (2.5 km) long Kennet Stone Avenue which goes to the henge and stone circles of  Neolithic Avebury. All the sarsen stones of the Sanctuary have been 'taken away' [i.e. stolen, in 1724-1725] except the one which lies prone and out of position at the modern entrance to this site.  In the panorama you can see wooden signposts indicating the Ridgeway which passes alongside. The Ridgeway is a prehistoric track known to be  least 5500 years old.  Beyond the signposts a couple of Bronze Age round barrows can be made out.
Turning clockwise the long hedge conceals the Ridgeway and more round barrows on the other side. Then in the distance Golden Ball Hill comes into view and the northern side of Walker's Hill (which has Adam's Grave [Neolithic Long Barrow] at is summit - not visible). These hills, together with Knap Hill (Neolithic causewayed enclosure), Milk Hill and Tan Hill, constitute a range of hills overlooking the Vale of Pewsey to their south.
Close at hand you can see the short concrete posts  which mark the positions of the missing posts and 60+ stones of the Sanctuary.  The little white posts just beyond are not a gate but a new stile which allows the visitor to start the long walk along the Kennet Avenue to Avebury.  For a detailed account of this walk, and the megaliths that you can inspect by following it, turn to the Megalithic Society's excursions section which you will find on the home page.
With difficulty, Silbury Hill can be made out over 2 km away (look into the distance beyond the style).
